YouTube Donation Cards: Every Bit Counts
I'm AJ Tesler and my daughter, Magnolia, has Rett Syndrome. Before I had ever even heard about Rett, I was a producer for a number of different YouTube networks and have created hundreds of videos for YouTube creators, networks and now for my daughter. I continue to work with YouTube talent so, I know a little bit about it. Which is why I'm so excited about this new feature and the potential for it to help raise awareness as well as funds.
There's been a lot of talk about the amount of money that top YouTubers are making. Some of them in the millions of dollars per year by consistently pumping out entertaining content to a large community of followers. Every dollar Youtube makes by advertising on a video they essentially split it with the creator of the video.
Can you imagine what an organization like RSRT could do if we were able to translate those views into donations? Well, YouTube has recently launched a new feature called "Donation Cards" which gives a whole new reason to do just that! It's a brand new, easy way to raise money for RSRT, by, essentially, clicking an extra box when you share a video.
Do you share videos with your family on YouTube or upload to YouTube for any reason at all? Have you often thought about it, but it always seemed complicated? Do you know anyone within your network of friends and family who actively posts YouTube videos? If so, you should definitely take a look at this new feature and share with as many friends as possible.
Last year, YouTube gave users the ability to add different types of “Cards” to videos as a call to action, but recently they've included a "Donations" card. This option makes it extremely easy for people to donate and 100% of every dollar goes directly to the charity of the user's choice! The video below explains it best...
Rett Syndrome Research Trust is one of YouTube's approved charities, and as such, will appear when you type it into the query box. It's very simple and once you've done it the first time, it'll become second nature! If you're interested in using this feature but aren't familiar enough by the process or if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
This is an easy way to passively raise funds without having to blatantly ask followers. If every single family dealing with Rett Syndrome raised even just $100 through this feature, it could bring us millions of dollars closer to a cure. Talk about a Viral Video!
